Flashback

We've reached a point where one is officially old. Nephew will hit the decade mark this year and to start that celebration, I present this classic from way the hell back when he still lived in LA and was deep into the madness of Napoleon Dynamite.

Today's Purchase and other notes

It's been the usual up and down quiet than chaos that you read about often on this blog. Most of the times its great, sometimes its eh, and very rarely it sucks a ball, but this is life and it's a better life tham most. If you look closely in the old aggression albums, you'll see a quote "Our week is better than your year", which I believe comes from Lou Reed and still applies to the world of MOG.

Friday was the relaxing night. Sat outside on 2nd ave with Irene, her friend, a bottle of wine and some cheese and just hung out. It was nice out, unlike now as I type. Then Irene grabbed some pasta at Cacio Y Vino for some pasta. It was a relaxing good evening.

Saturday was back to the BK for some pesto power and remixing. We cracked the fucking shit out of this remix. B came up with some sick shit for it and we threw down even more F-Bass. We pretty much finished what needed to be done for the mix. Now B has to record his shit hot drums and some other tweaks before we mix. This might be our best remix ever. I was talking to Jake from SVI and got him psyched about it. His new stuff sounds GREAT and I can't wait for his album. You can hear some of it at: http://www.myspace.com/screenvinylimage

Now hopefully we can get back to the album, but this was a fun exercise.

Saturday night, first, I apologize to the Kidd for our not making his Bday thingy, but we had tickets to see Elbow and my god, they are just fucking awesome. I am dead over Webster Hall and they booked this shit wrong cause half of Jersey was showing up for the club night looking bewildered at the Mancs on stage, but anyway. Elbow wisely has added some string players and they play the deep heart string pulling shit that I love. Guy Garvey again is one of the best frontmen on the planet. It's like the awesome dude at the pub who is hilarious and tells the best stories except then he sings the most soulful shit. Amazing.

Sunday, I went searching for this...

But ended up with this...

(Thanks Dave!)

Then we went home, Irene cooked some sick awesome Korean pork and I watched the sport. Ace. Now, its dickie time...

YOU ONLY HEAR BASS, BOB

Been a struggle to get back here and tell you what's up and obviously there are good reasons for that, some of which you need not know. Lotta big professional changes lying ahead as I enter what is referred to as the "Nightwing" stage of my career. Not the easiest, occasionally frustrating, but probably all good by the time it's said and done. The weather helps. Put on some Peka and enjoy the day. Also, a lot of sleeping in.

Last weekend was NY Comic Con, which precluded me from working on music, much to my annoyance. However, I can't complain. The movie got the proper blockbuster treatment. Tons of press, free food and drinks, and the proper reaction to the trailer. Had some funny Frank moments too, which always makes me feel good. I was pretty swamped with all of the movie related stuff (most of which I was a tagalong for, but this is all new to me, so it's fun and sometimes boring to watch) I got a little time on the floor, the Kidd's people treated me like a rockstar, and I got to meet Luis, my editor for the Trek manga. Evan really kept me company during the dull moments, and had camera ready when we met Sandsweet (see previous entry). Anyhow, the Con was a success and fun and while they were silly to book it during Passover, they are even sillier to move it back to Feb next year. It's flipping COLD on the West Side! OH. And you are going to SHIT your pants silly when you see this new Dark Knight Trailer. Jesus Christ.

I had been getting some really bad headaches lately, it's been building all year. I assumed it was stress related, but stupid me, I should have realized it was the same problem I have had since I was a small boy, my ears. I got some wax issues. Gross, I know. So after a lovely noodle lunch with the KIDD, I saw the ear Dr who treated me for the Bells and he cleaned my shit out. It was not easy. I had a 30% loss of hearing my left ear. The ear drum was buried. And the shit that came out was the grossest fucking shit you ever saw. I felt bad for the Dr, but man I feel fucking great. Then I strolled the old hood and thought half warmly of THE GOLD STREET YEARS. They are finally giving that hood the makeover they were determined to do 8 years ago. I think back to 96 or so, whenever G and I first went down there, and there was jack shit Blade Runner Country (tm VK) and now it has gyms and condos, etc. It WAS cool though to see Spirit posters, but NYC, where have you gone and where are you going?

I forget why we didn't watch the Sport on Monday, but I had a good reason for it. Now I remember, it was dinner with the awesome lady who produced the movie and her husband. She is very inspiring.

I finally made it back to the studio on Wed night. FINALLY. I had been working a bit here and there at home, but sometimes you just gotta grab the Thunderbird, plug in the Clone Theory, and get to fucking work. We have been working on a remix for Screen Vinyl Image, which I spent a lot of time arranging and fucking with. Then I sent it off to B, who did his thing, and then he sent it to Bob, who provided a whole new remix changing bassline, which then comes back to the HF offices where B and I started to re-arrange based on Bob's goodness. It sounds cool, its getting there. I did some F-bass over it, which we were into. Then I made some edits, trimmed some fat. Now B will lay down some new beats before it comes back to me for me to dive into and make get into the tiny nuances, etc. It'll be fun. It will take a bit though.

Last night, Irene and I saw FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL, aka The KIDD SHOULD HAVE GONE TO HAWAII AND NOT FRANCE. G had seen it the other day and his biggest comment was Mila Kunis' tan. He's a picky fucker. I thought this was a good, fun, funny movie. I am a big Jason Segal fan since FREAKS, so it's great to see him headlining and writing his own stuff. In fact, everyone in it is good, especially Russell Brand, who balances being a douche with being a good guy really well (and gets an Oasis comment in the movie as well) and overall I thought it was a worthy addition to the Apatow world.

And now, gigs are coming...More soon.

I cannot wait for this!

The one and only Keiji Muto returns to New Japan on April 27th and for the first time in over eight years, challenges for the title he helped make so prestigious. Yes, Muto will challenge Shinsuke Nakamura for the IWGP Heavyweight Title at Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium in what is sure to be one of the biggest matches of the year - the "forbidden first confrontation" as the press labels it. Nakamura defeated Tanahashi to win the title, then did the impossible by submitting Kurt Angle to unify the two IWGP belts, then recently again defeated Tanahashi to hold on the title, but President Sugabayashi explained he needs to defeat the likes of Muto to become the true ace.

Muto explained his reason for accepting this match, and that was his 30 minute draw with Nakamura's great rival Tanahashi in the Champion Carnival being better than he had imagined. Tanahashi's growth into one of the world's best wrestlers has Muto wanting to test Nakamura. Muto said that although Nakamura and Tanahashi are good men, he believes he was a better man when he was young. Nakamura said he is both nervous and excited to be fighting Muto and called it "high-risk fighting", for if he stumbles even once, Muto will surely take him down and take the IWGP Heavyweight Title he fought so hard to win back and help restore some prestige to.

NY to SF to LA to SF....

I have reached the stage where I am lying to you about posting regularly. I'm not. Screw you. This is just how it is. Ok, let's continue. I am literally typing you while two small children sit watching Noggin.

Hello from San Francisco, where IB and I have been since last Sunday. We're here helping original MOG member Fury's wife and children with their new addition, who you have seen elsewhere on this blog and will see a lot more of in the future. It's been a trip of great weather, fine eating and small awesome children.

We got here and it's been nonstop. I wasn't an expecting a vacation, but it has been nice to relax a bit. I love it here. Had my line of work taken place here and not in LA, I probably would have moved here 15 years ago. I think my friend Stu said it best when we were having lunch and drinking Chimay at the Presidio the other day, NY and SF are cousins of a sort, and I agree.

Small children keep and intense and early schedule. Mrs. Fury has her hands full. Irene is a fucking CHAMP with these kids. She is balancing all of this and making life easier for Mrs Fury. Your hero gets to be the occasional punching bag and gofer, which is fine by me. The new baby has taken a liking to your hero so we have spent a lot of time together, mostly involving food. Also, there's a cafe down the block with super fresh brewed action, so I am starting the days off right.

While the girls do their thing, I have been running around SF for work related stuff. Had some meetings, saw some cool stuff from the movie, including the trailer, which you will see in about a week's time. But seeing the team at work on the VFX is amazing. Thank you Stu, Nancy and Aaron for letting me sneak into the bunker to check things out. On Tuesday night, Irene and I had dinner with her 5 month preggers cousin who she hadn't seen in 15 (!) years (the wonders of Facebook bringing people together) and her husband, who is an awesome dude with a love of the footie that I have to respect beyond belief. We ate at a great place called the Blue Point, which Irene's cousin used to work at and it was great. I hope we can see these two soon, especially after their lil ones arrives.

On Wed, I popped down to LA to say some quick hellos and to see the rough version of the movie. I had high expectations to begin with, but I have to say my expectations were exceeded. I fucking loved what I saw. You should too unless you're a fucking idiot. And you are, sometimes, guy. The cool thing was after landing, I saw some billboards for the movie, which I was dead excited about. All over LA and NY. Check that shit out.

That night, I dogsat Business Affair's new puppy and brought her to see my now future mother in law, who cooked, as always, flipping feast for a king. So I brought Fury and Business Affairs over to chow down as well. The puppy is hilarious and adorable and Irene's mom took loads of pix of her. She is a cutie though I destroyed her leash with the car (she was not attached), but mom in law stepped up and created a homemade leash for Business Affairs to use until she could get a new one. It was one of those crazy days in LA, but I have to admit I do like the hour flight there as opposed to the 4 hour flight. I was so fucking manic, I went to bed at 2am that night and realized, despite numerous texts from Geoff, that I had missed comic day (thanks Evan!)

After a quick trip to Bob's Donuts yesterday morning, I flew back to SF. After landing, I used public transportation (thanks Jenn) and made it back safe and sound. The girls had their hands full here, so I did my part right away (meaning, play with new baby and feed her) and then Irene and I went out to dinner with my dear friend Jenni, who I haven't seen since she moved up here from LA, and her boyfriend, Skott. We had a fucking great time with them and after chilling in the IRA bar, they took us to Skott's fave place, Burma Superstar, which obviously has cooks that live up to that name cause this place ranks among "Best Shit Ever" category. Fucking A. This place was so good, Irene stole a goddamn menu! We had a laugh riot with these guys and then they took us around the hood (not that I remember what it's called cause I am a tard) but it kicked ass and Skott lives near a sweet fucking Asian DVD store and he has a bad ass dog named Scout, who rocked and Irene would have tried to sneak into her bag if she didn't have the stolen menu in it already. Irene totally needed a good night out after watching the kids all week and props to these guys for providing it.

We just gotta get some fucking In and out Burger before we go. Seriously.

And here I am, sipping tea, sitting in the sun watching a 2 year old down a drink like its his last drink on Earth. He also has no pants on. It's like hanging out with Brandt except cute.
